Do You Know This Song? (Teach Me To Live...)

Way back in my college days we used to sing this song a fair bit. I have searched for author and copyright information for several years now, but with no success. Do you know this song? Who wrote it? (My memory says it was someone from Grace Community Church, Panorama City, CA).
I know I still love to sing it!

Teach Me to Live What You Say
Teach me to live what You say,
Make me a child who'll obey;
Holy in all that I do,
May I bring glory to You.

My life is all Yours to shape as You will
I'll be the glove for Your hand to fill;
I want to be pleasing, to You may it be,
That You might be glorified somehow in me.

To be more like Jesus with each passing day;
More like the Master in every way,
A servant who's yielded his heart to the One,
Who gives life and says to His servant, “Well done!”

Author and copyright information unknown.

  1. Paul,

    I am a Master's College graduate and now serve as a Worship Pastor in Rockford, Illinois. I've tried to research this song several times anc can't find it in print anywhere. It's one of those anonymous songs that just sort of makes its way throught the world! God bless you and your ministry.

  2. hey Steve!
    I remember you!
    Thanks for dropping by.
    Well, I am just glad to know I am not the only one who cannot give credit where it is due - unless we just give all the thanksgiving to the Lord. Not such a bad idea!
    The Lord bless you in your ministry as well, brother!

  3. Hey Paul, I'm a TMC graduate as well (1991) and loved this song. I just used it in a newsletter article about faithfulness. For some reason, I always thought this song was penned by Dr. MacArthur - at least I recall being told that he wrote it. Have you ever thought to ask him? Just an idea...

  4. I was wondering who wrote it too. We played and sang the song in the College ministry at Grace Community when Chris Mueller was College pastor. I don't recall ever seeing an author on the chord sheet I had. But today I was looking on the web and noticed a site where someone said it was written by Don Kistler at GCC. Then I saw a comment from Don Kistler saying he was the author of "the second song" referred to in the blog (which I take as being the song we are wondering about. And by the way, the song seems to actually be titled "Glory to you" (not the one by Aaron Shust). See http://www.challies.com/articles/a-man-there-is-a-real-man. Don Kistler's note is found there.

  5. I just remembered this song today and sang a bit of it to my wife, but couldn't remember all the lyrics. I googled what I could remember and this site came up. I checked out the link to challies' blog and saw someone there say they sang it at GCC back in the late 80's. Wow! I went to The Master's College from 1999-2003 and I remember singing it in my first year or two there, but I don't think we sang it in the later years. I loved that song! Thanks for posting the lyrics so that I can remember them!
