Running Well: Andrew Bonar: Minister of the Gospel
You simply must read this little treasure posted by Darrin Brooker over at Running Well. It is a delightful list of instructions to pastors found in the inside cover of Andrew Bonar's Bible - of which Darrin just came into possession and freely posted for us all!
[Edit: fixed Darrin's last name and came into possession of a dictionary...]
That's Darrin BrookER.
ReplyDeleteOh, and it's "posSession". :-)
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thanks Annnonnnymust!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what happened on this post. It IS Brooker, not Brook.
Hi Paul,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comments. I must admit that the inspiration for that post came after listening to your sermon on sovereign hardening during a nice stint in Toronto traffic on Wednesday.
Your "people in the boat heading towards the falls" illustration reminded my of that paragraph in Andrew's letter to Horatius and hence the post. That was a powerful sermon.
The one point you made about Pharoah being in "agreement" with God's hardening and hence actively going along with the hardening really struck me as I had never thought of it in that way and that helped me to sort out some things in my own mind.
"Praise him for His grace, for if it wasn't grace, it would be hardening." What an immensely humbling thought for the creature. I look forward to hearing your follow up sermon when it's available this coming week.
Darrin
p.s. no worries on spelling my last name "Brook"....I've had worse. :-)
p.s.s.
