And Can it Be We Don't Sing Enough?

I am convinced that most hymnals have done the church a disservice by not including this verse to Charles Wesley's grand hymn, And Can It Be?

The verse offers the worshipper the ability to affirm the inward witness of the Spirit (Romans 8:16 "The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God...") that he or she is truly born again by the grace of God. Ponder these words:

Still the small inward voice I hear,
That whispers all my sins forgiven;
Still the atoning blood is near,
That quenched the wrath of hostile heaven.

I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel the Savior in my heart.

Praise the Lord! Would that we could sing this with all our hearts!
