RELEVANT - More on the Christianity of Bono

RELEVANT: One Fan's Experience of Bono's Christianity

This post confirms what Darrin Brooker wrote about his experience at a U2 concert this year in Toronto (see comment #21).

I found this paragraph most interesting:
"I’ve heard the urban legends of amazing things Bono has said about his faith, I’ve read the books, and I’ve peered deep into everything he’s said hoping to find something that makes his beliefs clear. For years, I’ve adored him and clung to the notion that he is believer, too. After all, he identifies himself with Christianity, doesn’t he?"

It reminds me of the tidal wave of interest in a local church here in Toronto once news spread that a certain celebrity had attended - twice! Why are we so desperate to find some cool "star" to own our cause?

"
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” - Acts 4:12

  3. Okay, speculation here. (who's crazy enough to argue with a Baptist?)

What if by Bono's concert chant, what he was getting at was NOT "Jesus and Mohammed are both prophets of the same God, and either will get you to Heaven.", but rather, "Whether you are a follower of Jesus or a follower of Mohammed, let's strive to live in peace with one another rather than killing each other."

Maybe it was not a religious declaration but just him expressing a deep desire for peace and dialogue between Christians, Jews and Muslims as opposed to war, be it physical or verbal? Just a thought.

  4. The plot thickens further...
My first comment was based on Darrin's quote of Bono "Jesus, the Jew, Mohammed makes two..."

Then I read the Relevant article and saw, “Jesus, Jew, Mohammed—all true." That casts a bit of a shadow on where Bono was going. Was it two quotes from different concerts, or two different recollections of the same quote? I'll put a hold on my earlier comment, because I have a hard time reconciling the "truth" of those three. I'd still stand by his desire for peace though.

(How come for word verification this time I have to type "Next time check all the links before commenting"?)
