Mormons leader defends church's Christian identity

Journal Gazette 12/31/2005
“Of course we’re Christian. The very name of the church declares that,” said 95 year old LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

That's strange. The last 9 Mormon's I have talked at length with all denied justification by grace alone through faith alone to the glory of God alone.

Mormonism is not the Christianity of the Bible.

  1. Unfortunately I have spoken with more than 9 "evangelicals" who also have denied justification by grace alone through faith alone to the glory of God alone.

    I think that's a big part of the problem.

  2. wow...thats sad...to think that people get confused between the 'real Church' and the 'false church'(If I can use that term)and may be thinking their saved when their not. I know of one person who after reading quickly through a gospel tract(the million dollar tract from www.livingwaters.com :-) thought it was placed there by a cult rather than a Christian...He believes that all religions teach 'good things' and as long as you believe in 'somthing' your alright. Also, just because a Church says their Christian doesnt mean that they are...but I guess Mr. Hinckley would disagree with me on that point. If he believes that the Mormons are Christian, I wonder who he would say are not Christians? I wonder how he desides who is a Christian and who are not? 'By their name' is a bit..um...unbiblical! I have met unbelievers who know there is a difference between the Roman Catholic Church and Evangelical Christianity though, which I was pleasently surprised at :-) Mr.Hinckley also states in the article that “Our position is simply this, we say, you bring all the good that you have, wherever you have acquired it, and see if we may add to it”. I respond by quoting Psalm 53:1 which states "The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
    there is none who does good."
    And Romans 3:10-12, "as it is written: “ None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands;
    no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;no one does good,
    not even one.” We need to pray for those who are unbelievers, may Christ grant us much grace and mercy!

    Great post bro :-)
